The Hawaiian island of Kauai is the fourth largest of the island chain, but to those who live here, it is a place all its own. Kauai was never conquered by its warring neighbors Maui and Oahu and even had its own Hawaiian dialect until the arrival of Captain Cook in 1778. Kauaians have always relied on themselves and each other, and it is this spirit of Ohana, or family, that can be found here. That spirit can also be tasted in the beer brewed on this island, beer which cannot be found anywhere else.
Kauai has two breweries, Kauai Beer Company and Kauai Island Brewery. While the styles and tastes of these breweries may differ, the care with which both make and serve beer to the public is all about Ohana.
